DBD-Certified Quality Accounting Firm: What It Means and How to Check the List Yourself
A Quality Accounting Firm is an accounting firm certified by the Department of Business Development (DBD), Ministry of Commerce, as meeting the requirements set out in the Department notification on the certification of quality accounting firms. Certification covers how the firm is organised and how it controls its work, not the price it charges or the number of clients it has. The Department publishes the list of certified firms and updates it periodically, so anyone can check for themselves whether a firm is on it.
How many quality accounting firms are there in Thailand?
From the regional lists the Department published on 3 August 2026, there are 194 certified quality accounting firms nationwide, out of tens of thousands of accounting firms registered in Thailand. The regional breakdown is:

Where can I check the list myself?
Do not take a firm’s word for it. The Department publishes the list publicly, and it takes a minute to check. Check the date on the file as well. Certification is reviewed periodically, and a firm that appeared on an older list may not appear on the current one.

How does this differ from an ordinary accounting firm?
Any accounting firm can prepare accounts. What certification adds is that the Department has checked how the firm runs: its management structure, its working procedures, the way it controls quality of work, how it keeps client information confidential, and how it maintains the technical knowledge of its staff. A firm without certification is not doing anything unlawful. It simply has not been checked against that standard.
For a business owner the practical difference is that you are not relying only on what the firm tells you about itself. There is an external check you can see.
How to choose an accounting firm safely
- Check the published list. Match the firm name and address against the Department’s file, not against a logo on a website.
- Ask who signs. Ask for the name and licence number of the Certified Public Accountant who will sign the audit, and check it against the Federation of Accounting Professions register.
- Ask what happens if work is abandoned. Ask how outstanding filings are handed over, and get it in the engagement letter.
- Be careful with prices far below the market. A fee that cannot cover the hours the work takes usually means the work will not be done at the hours it takes.
- Ask to see the process, not the promise. Ask how documents are received, how the monthly close runs, and who reviews before filing.
